GCUC 2016 up for grabs!

The Global Coworking Unconference Conference (GCUC) is a three-day conference dedicated to providing support, education and inspiration to the coworking industry. GCUC (pronounced “juicy”) attracts existing and prospective coworking owners and operators, executive suites industry, corporations interested in promoting collaboration, commercial real estate professionals, investors, scholars, those interested in the future of work, and a wide variety of vendors from around the world. Evolving from a pre-SXSW happy hour in 2007 to the three-day conference and unconference it is today. GCUC’s growth reflects the tremendous growth of the coworking movement as a whole. GCUC is the premier US coworking conference and a global leader in the coworking movement. We are looking for… Read More

Welcome to Camp GCUC!

With GCUC USA 2015 fast approaching, the DeskHub team has been getting super stoked about sponsoring Camp GCUC!  We’re so excited to learn from other attendees while sharing our experiences, both the good and the not so good, of getting our spaces open and running over the past year. Without giving away too much about the day (or the swag!), we are confident that those of you just getting started and/or at the conference for the first time will leave with new skills and the confidence to move forward (or frankly with the realization that you don’t) and a peer support network that will help guide your journey. At DeskHub, we aspire to help… Read More

Top 10 Reasons you should attend GCUC

10. The Unconference allows anyone to be a speaker! What does that mean exactly? Well…exactly what it says. The coolest part of an unconference is the ability for every attendee to fully participate in engaging conversations with each other, rather than sitting in an auditorium being talked to for hours on end. No matter whether this is your first time coming to GCUC or you have been every year, the opportunity to engage and connect with your coworking peers is second to none! 9. Where else are you going to meet hundreds of other people into coworking? The GCUC team can always tell who’s at their first coworking event, because the look… Read More

Announcing GCUC POP!

POP! POP! Do you hear that?!?! POP! POP! POP! While the GCUC team has been coworking obsessed for a while now, coworking has been POPPING up in the news left and right so far this year.  That’s why we’re beyond excited to announce the launch of GCUC POP!, a new, one day juicy “POP!” of coworking awesomeness at the WeDC House @ SXSW!  For those of you who don’t know our story, GCUC (pronounced “juicy”) got it’s start at SXSW a few years ago, so when the folks at WeDC asked if we’d be interested in partnering with them and coming back to our roots, we just had to say yes! With… Read More

What is an Unconference?

It feels just like yesterday when I first attended the Coworking Unconference in Austin, TX way back in 2011. I’d never heard of what an “unconference” was at the time, but went with an open mind. If you’d have told me that four years later I’d be the Executive Producer of GCUC, I would have told you you were crazy. And those of you who know me, know that’s the truth! We know there are some questions out there about the unconference and are really happy that y’all are so engaged online and excited for May! No two unconferences are the same, but they certainly do have similarities. So, let’s use my… Read More

A Love Letter from GCUC to YOU!

I absolutely love this quote and was reminded of it’s importance as of late. Recently, I had to ban myself from my own Facebook newsfeed because I realized that I was comparing myself and my business to all the status updates, articles and even memes my friends were posting.  How does that make any sense? We all have our own unique path. I’m not everyone else – and neither are you! So, why are we as coworking owners and operators dead set on comparing our unique spaces and communities to others that may seem to be in an entirely different league, if not universe? It’s incredibly important to take a look at… Read More

Co-working?!?! No, It’s Coworking!

Hey Coworking Peeps! It’s me, Lindsey, Director of Operations! If you’ve ever called or emailed GCUC we’ve chatted and if you have any questions, I’m here for you! Although I usually prefer hanging out behind the scenes, today I’m breaking that cloak of invisibility to issue you a challenge. Let’s fix co-working. You know that pesky little hyphen that blights good press and scholarly articles everywhere? Yup, it’s time for it to go the way of the Dodo. Let’s fix this co-working vs. coworking madness once and for all. We’ve talked about it on the Coworking Google Group, in blog posts (here, here, and here) on Twitter and Facebook. The funny cartoon… Read More

Top 5 Trends for Coworking in 2015

Trend #1: Current Coworking operators will supply the majority of the explosive growth in the market. This isn’t anything new, but just a continuation of what Emergent Research presented in 2014. If you want to see explosive growth just take a look at WeWork.   Trend #2: It will rain money. Thanks to WeWork being valued at 5 billion dollars last fall, investors are not just sitting up and taking notice, they’re pursuing Coworking operators. Get your books in order and get your share!   Trend #3: Specialization will continue to thrive. Coworking spaces will continue to narrow their focus as the market grows. We’re seeing spaces for knitting, government contracting, medical… Read More

GCUC is coming to Berkeley!

That’s right folks! GCUC, short for Global Coworking Unconference Conference and pronounced “juicy”, is the biggest coworking event of the year and it’s coming to the place where coworking was born: the Bay Area. The event attracts coworkers from all over the planet to come together in one place for three full days of panel discussions, high-energy breakout sessions, high-fiving team building activities and hella shenanigans. As a result, attendees always leave with a whole slew of new concepts and strategies that they can bring back home to their local coworking communities. NextSpace has been attending GCUC since it first launched in 2012. When our team was heading back to the airport… Read More

Volunteers needed in KC!

The 4th annual Global Coworking Unconference Conference (GCUC, pronounced “juicy”) is coming to Kansas City for its first traveling year. The conference is the largest global gathering of coworking space owners and operators and we are excited to welcome them to our booming entrepreneurial ecosystem! How it happened In the summer of 2013, the KC coworking and hacker space community rallied in partnership with the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City and the City of Kansas City, Missouri to respond to an RFP to bring GCUC to bring the conference here in 2014. Mayor Sly James wrote a letter to the organizers (which probably helped us tremendously!)   But… Read More
