John Sagebiel likes to describe himself as a chemist with a deep appreciation for and understanding of the natural world. This has led him to be an advocate for sustainable living, and (as much as he can) a practitioner of this way of living. Together with his wife, he designed and built a net-zero energy home in Reno and advocates for sustainable practices especially in buildings, transportation, water use, and food. He is an avid cyclist riding as much as he can and competing in mountain bike races around the US and internationally. He is currently working closely with the Vice President for Research and Innovation (VPRI) at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) on developing and preparing to launch the InNEVation space at UNR. The goal is to have a muti-use facility that focuses on coworking space for entrepreneurs and startups in the very early (innovation) stages. Space will be awarded to a variety of people including innovators working with UNR faculty and student or student and faculty teams that win design competitions on campus.
