Agenda

Wahoo! We’ve changed it up this year so pay attention!

First time attendees will be reporting to Day One – Camp GCUC bright and early at 7:30am for your camp counselor assignment and camp orientation. This is where you’ll learn the answers to all your burning questions!

If you’ve been to GCUC before or have had your space open for a while, you’ll be invited to the Day One – Legacy Unconference. Here we will “day of” crowdsource the topics that you need to discuss with your peers. Think of it as a mash up of all things Coworking in real time with accelerated serendipity and a dash of awesomeness. We’re giving you the morning to get to town and get settled! Questions? Extroverts love them; introverts hate them. Either or, it appears that open office space is here to stay! Successful design is easily within reach, but execution is everything. Let’s take a quick look at what has happened – for better or for worse. Examining first the corporate world, then coworking spaces you may have already seen/experienced, we’ll walk though design do’s and dont’s! Get ready for a mental workout by completing different exercizes pairing up functional layouts to various space shapes and sizes! You’ll learn how to juggle the perfect balance between # of meeting rooms, # of offices, and # of desks, while keeping in mind most importantly, circulation and the relationships between spaces.

Chefs know that it’s not just one thing that makes their signature dish so special. It’s lots of secret ingredients, it’s the presentation, it’s the experience and it’s whether or not it’s so good they want to come back for more. Hopefully by the end of this session, you can pick and choose your ingredients for success and layer your brand (special sauce) on top to create your own vision of success.

The best coworking spaces are not designed around a beautiful space, but around a powerful idea. An idea that people find inspiring, an idea they want to be part of and make their own. Having that idea is only the beginning, building it, literally and metaphorically into everything, you do and say is critical to its success. Some people call it good branding, but we believe it’s good business. In this sessions, learn the ins and outs of what makes for good branding.

The divide between providing community vs. providing space is a topic that has been beat to death on countless wiki boards, twitter rants, blog posts and most recently in The Atlantic. We ask the question: “Why does it have to be either/or?” While you might label yourself as a coworking operator, you’re in the real estate business more than you realize. Our experts discuss and debate the impact shared work space has made in the commercial real estate industry and why signing traditional leases might become a thing of the past sooner than you think. How do developers, brokers and spaces all coexist together?

Our awesome panel of experts will tackle the subject and share where they see coworking in 5, 10 and even 15 years from now! Whether it be technological advances (wireless EVERYTHING), the sudden corporate embrace of coworking, or the rise in coliving spaces and coworking vacations (trip to the moon, anyone?), we’ll be talking about it all here!
